CatchingART – The Company

CatchingART PromoPro Arte Centre is proud to be the home of CatchingART Contemporary Ballet Theatre – A Semi-Professional Company that launches dancers into the professional world of dance.

The company experience is designed for  Classical & Contemporary Ballet dancers ages 18 – 25  who teach/study/work in the afternoon and evening. It can also be used as a supplement to the intensive Advanced + Protégé Training at Pro Arte Centre.  Artists in this program are cultivating an artist’s CV that will position them for placement in companies around the world.

CatchingART performs regularly with the Lions Gate Sinfonia, the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Pandoras Vox and Yarilo Music  among other professional and community groups.  As well, new in the 2018-19 year, the Season includes a series of performances celebrating life on the North Shore in, “Roots of the Community.”  These performances will honour the diversity and vibrancy found our own neighbourhood.

More information about CatchingART, an audition application and how you can bring CatchingART to your community can be found on their website at www.catchingart.ca.

EwB (and Pro Arte) shows why it is “without borders” or “how a seed planted today can ripen tomorrow”

Yamoussa of Kalabante

Dear Pro Arte families & friends

On February 3rd, 2008 EwB and Pro Arte put on a Woza Afrika Concert at the Kay Meek Theatre in West Vancouver.  This was a fundraiser for EwB and the Kalabante circus school in Guinea Conarky. The evening featured the Pro Arte dancers and a circus show put on by Yamoussa Bangoura ( Kalabante’s inspirational leader, mentor and teacher) and some of his friends.

The revenue was split between EwB and  Production Kalabante.  Production Kalabante is a humanitarian aid project which promotes and supports basic education in Guinea – Conarky. $6000 was given to Yamoussa from the revenue to develop a circus school in Conarky.  Children admitted to the school were given basic education and taught circus skills.  Cavalia  – Odysseo ( www.cavalia.net) recently played in Vancouver to packed audiences and is on a cross-continent tour. Members of the Kalabante circus school were an integral part of this extraordinary show.

Yamoussa (www.kalabante.org ) sent EwB the following message in January,2014: “The show we did in Vancouver with EwB make a big difference. I put that money in the school and also in the food for the training.”

Thank you Pro Arte families and friends – those tickets you purchased gave dreams and hopes that came true to young artists across the world!

Pro Arte Solo Seal candidates 2013

Pro Arte’s CatchingART dancers Emma Miller, Haley Horton, Amanda Gillies and Nicolette Szabo take their Royal Academy of Dance Solo Seal examination this Sunday March 3rd, 2pm at the Michael J Fox Theatre in Burnaby.

They have been coached by Tania Brossoit with Lynette Kelly, Bev Bagg, Astrid Sherman and Stephana Arnold.
Tickets: Adults – $25.00 and Students – $20  at the door.
The Solo Seal Award was introduced in 1928 as an additional examination for students who had achieved the Advanced Certificate with distinction. This is the highest Vocational Graded examination of the Royal Academy of Dance and focuses on solo performance. Candidates are required to perform three variations, which have been selected to meet the stylistic and movement demands of today’s choreographers and directors. The Solo Seal Award takes place in front of an invited audience and panel of judges, which normally consists of a Vocational Grades examiner and professional dancer or former dancer from a ballet company, approved by the artistic director of the Academy.

Patrons Solo/Duo/Trio Show tomorrow at Mulgrave’s Linda Hamer Theatre

The Solo/DuoTrio Showcase is an annual event that is hosted by Patrons of ProArte. This is the only show that the faculty get to sit in the audience and enjoy the performance.

The first of two Solo/Duo/Trio performances is taking place tomorrow January 12th. The performance has been divided into three segments:  3:30 – 5:15, 5:45 – 7:30 and 8:00 – 9:45.  There is a 30 minute intermission between each.

_PAM6156The Linda Hamer Theatre at Mulgrave School provides the perfect venue for this kind of performance.

Patrons of Pro Arte are very fortunate to have the support of the Mulgrave community.

The setting is somewhat informal and as such, it works well for those who cannot stay for an entire segment.

Entry is by donation.

Come and enjoy an amazing evening of entertainment and support the hard work of all the dancers!

All the best for a Happy and Healthy 2013!!

About CatchingART Contemporary Ballet Theatre :

There are few opportunities in Canada that allow young artists to aspire to the dream of dancing as a professional artist. The CatchingART Contemporary Ballet Theatre “company experience” will provide priceless professional learning opportunities and the development of resume performances, confidence and proficiency though directorship of Astrid Sherman and  unique performance opportunities and company classes with professional guest teachers. In its inaugural year, eight Grade 11 and 12 students who have committed to a career in dance were selected for this opportunity.

About Education without Borders and Pro Arte:

Education without Borders (EwB)  aims to provide improved educational opportunities and facilities in disadvantaged regions of the world. EwB believes that the development of knowledge and skills gives individuals greater control over their lives and more possibilities and choices for their future. Enhanced educational opportunities build communities from within, and facilitate bridging between communities

Pro Arte has joined EwB in fundraising events since our inception in 2003. Together we have funded  various arts and dance programs at local South African Primary & High Schools. Our (Pro Arte’s) ultimate vision is to see talented students being given the chance and opportunity of a university degree in their chosen Art Field.
